Safeguarding Policy

Definitions

Safeguarding

Protecting individual heath, human rights and wellbeing to be able to live free from abuse, neglect and harm.

DSL

Designated Safeguarding Leader. A person who deal with all safeguarding concerns and make sure all safeguarding policy are up to date and being follow by all member of staff / volunteers. 

Vulnerable Adult

A person aged 18 and over who may need safeguarding because of disability, age , illness or they are unable to protect themself from harm, abuse or neglect.

Abuse

Any action that course harm or injury to an individual.This includes but not limited to physical, sexual,financial,emotional, discriminatory abuse and neglect. 


Purpose

GKAD is committed to safeguarding the welfare of all individuals who engage with are services. This includes members, staff, volunteers and members of the public. This policy outlined our commitment to protecting all above from harm , abuse , exploitation and neglect.


Training

All staff and volunteers will receive safeguarding training appropriate to their roles and responsibilities. Ever conducted by the DSL or partaking in a course. All training will be updated regularly and retaken when needed.


Confidentiality

All safeguarding concerns will be handled by DLS or Safeguarding officer deputy. Information will only be shared on a need-to-know basis to protect those at risk.


Code of Conduct

All staff and volunteers must:

  • Never engage in or tolerate any form of harm, neglect or abuse.


  • Treat all individuals with respect and dignity.


  • Report any safeguarding concerns immediately to the DSL.


  • Refrain from any behaviour that could be perceived as exploitative or abusive.


Our commitment

We willl

  • Promote a safe and inclusive environment for all participants.


  • Ensure all staff and volunteers receive appropriate safeguarding training.


  • Carry out thorough recruitment checks including but not limited to DBS checks where appropriate.


  • Take all Safeguarding concerns seriously and respond appropriately.


  • Maintain clear procedures for reporting concerns.


  • Monitor and review safeguarding practices regularly.


Recognising Abuse

Signs of abuse can include but not limited to:

  • Withdrawal or Anxiety


  • Sudden change in behaviour 


  • Poor hygiene or signs of neglect 


  • Unexplained injuries 


  • Financial irregularities for vulnerable adults 


Reporting Procedures

  • Any concerns must be reported to the DSL immediately 


  • The DSL will assess the situation and if necessary report to local safeguarding authorities.


  • Records of concerns will be kept securely and confidentially as humanly possible.


  • In an emergency or if someone in immediate danger contact the appropriate emergency services.


Policy Reviews and Scope

This policy applies to all staff, volunteers, representatives of GKAD and contractors who work with or come in contact with vulnerable adults. This policy will be reviewed annually or when significant change happens which ever come first.
